Inflammation
Inflammation is part of the body’s response to injury or illness. Persistent symptoms deserve a careful conversation rather than assumptions about a single cause.
Educational information—not a diagnosis.
Symptoms and health measurements can have many possible explanations. Primary care can help coordinate appropriate screening, monitoring, and next steps, but this page cannot diagnose a condition or replace individual medical advice.
A clearer place to start.
Inflammation can be a normal, short-term response to infection or injury. The word is also used broadly to describe symptoms or lab results, but it is not a diagnosis by itself. Ongoing symptoms can have many possible causes and need individualized evaluation.
When to bring it up.
- Persistent joint pain, stiffness, swelling, rashes, fevers, digestive symptoms, or unexplained fatigue.
- A new or recurring symptom pattern that affects your usual activities.
- Questions about an abnormal test result, a chronic condition, or how to coordinate care with a specialist.
Get urgent care for high fever with severe illness, a hot or rapidly swelling joint, trouble breathing, chest pain, sudden weakness, confusion, or a severe allergic reaction.
