A clear starting point

A comprehensive approach to your health story.

Functional & Integrative Medicine uses a thoughtful review of your health history, daily life, and current care to shape evidence-informed recommendations. It can complement—rather than replace—appropriate primary, specialty, urgent, or emergency care.

A conversation about your current care needs and goals.

An understandable next step—not a one-size-fits-all promise.

Coordination with appropriate primary, urgent, emergency, or specialty care when needed.

Two perspectives, one conversation

Functional and integrative medicine can work together.

Functional Medicine is a comprehensive, patient-centered approach that considers symptoms and diagnoses alongside the factors that may be contributing to them. Health and illness can reflect the interaction of physiology, nutrition, lifestyle, environment, and psychosocial influences, so care is individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Integrative medicine brings conventional medical care together with evidence-informed complementary approaches when appropriate. At Cleveland PrimeCare, this supports a more complete conversation about your health and can complement—not replace—appropriate conventional medical evaluation and treatment.

What to expect

A thoughtful process, built around your health story.

01

Start with your full story

Your evaluation can include your health history, current symptoms and diagnoses, medications and supplements, diet, lifestyle, sleep, stress, environmental exposures, and prior laboratory testing.

02

Assess what is clinically useful

Additional laboratory studies or specialized assessments may be considered when clinically appropriate—not because every test is needed for every person.

03

Build an individualized plan

Recommendations are based on your evaluation, goals, and current medical care. There is no one-size-fits-all protocol or promise of a particular result.

04

Reassess together

Follow-up visits create space to review symptoms, relevant laboratory markers, your clinical response, and sustainable next steps with you and your broader care team when appropriate.

Systems in context

Looking at how parts of your health may influence one another.

Rather than assuming a cause, your clinician considers the connections that may be relevant to your concerns and evaluation.

Terrain

The physiologic foundation: the resources that support everyday function, including nutrient status, blood-sugar stability, oxygen delivery, hydration, mitochondrial energy, protein status, and essential fats.

Regulation

The body’s communication and control systems, including thyroid and adrenal function, sex hormones, circadian rhythm, the nervous system, and blood-sugar regulation. The question is whether the orchestra is playing together in a coordinated way.

Defense

Factors that may contribute to an ongoing stress or survival response, such as inflammation, infection, food reactions, autoimmunity, toxic exposures or burden, oxidative stress, or gut permeability.

Capacity

Recovery and resilience: sleep, recovery, stress resilience, movement, emotional health, social connection, and a sense of meaning or purpose can all be part of the conversation.

Recommendations with context

Evidence-informed options, selected for your situation.

The plan may draw on practical options that fit your goals, evaluation, preferences, and current medical care.

Therapeutic nutrition and targeted dietary modifications

Lifestyle, exercise or movement, sleep, and stress-management strategies

Supplements, botanical medicine, or other evidence-informed approaches when appropriate

Coordination with existing medical care and prescribed medications when appropriate

May be helpful for

Topics to bring to a care conversation.

These are not diagnoses or treatment promises. A clinician can help decide whether Functional & Integrative Medicine is an appropriate place to start.

Questions about energy, sleep, stress, nutrition, movement, or daily routines.

Changes involving digestion, weight, metabolism, hormones, inflammation, or how you feel overall.

A desire to understand how your health history, lifestyle, environment, and current care may fit together.

Care boundaries

Individualized care, within the right clinical setting.

Functional & Integrative Medicine is collaborative, individualized care. It does not replace appropriate conventional evaluation and treatment, emergency services, or your existing specialists. Recommendations depend on your evaluation, and no treatment can guarantee a specific outcome. For urgent symptoms or a medical emergency, call 911 or seek immediate medical help.
