Health concerns

Hormones

Hormonal changes can influence how you feel, but they are only one possible part of a health concern involving mood, sleep, energy, metabolism, or cycles.

Educational information—not a diagnosis.

Symptoms and health measurements can have many possible explanations. Primary care can help coordinate appropriate screening, monitoring, and next steps, but this page cannot diagnose a condition or replace individual medical advice.

A clearer place to start.

Hormones help coordinate many processes in the body. Changes around puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, perimenopause, menopause, aging, medications, or medical conditions can affect symptoms. Similar symptoms can also have non-hormonal causes.

When to bring it up.

  • Changes in menstrual cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, libido, mood, sleep, or sexual health.
  • New acne, hair growth or loss, breast changes, or unexplained weight and energy changes.
  • Questions about menopause, contraception, fertility, gender-affirming care, or hormone medication.

Seek urgent care for severe pelvic or abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, chest pain, trouble breathing, or thoughts of harming yourself.
