Digestive Health

Digestive symptoms are common and can range from short-term discomfort to concerns that need a closer medical evaluation.

Educational information—not a diagnosis.

Symptoms and health measurements can have many possible explanations. Primary care can help coordinate appropriate screening, monitoring, and next steps, but this page cannot diagnose a condition or replace individual medical advice.

A clearer place to start.

Digestion can be affected by infections, food and medication changes, stress, chronic conditions, and many other factors. Symptoms such as bloating, heartburn, nausea, abdominal discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea do not automatically identify a cause.

When to bring it up.

  • Symptoms that keep returning, are worsening, or affect eating, sleep, work, or daily activities.
  • Changes in bowel habits, ongoing reflux, nausea, pain after eating, or concern about a food or medication trigger.
  • A personal or family history of digestive disease, or questions about safe nutrition changes.

Seek urgent care for severe or worsening abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black or bloody stools, yellowing of the skin or eyes, fever with severe illness, or signs of dehydration.
